Ms. Hunter's Art Classes-WINTER 2005

Denotations and Connotations

A photographed still-life arrangement may denote (show) flowers in a vase on a wooden table; it may connote (suggest, imply) peace, tanquility, and the delightfulness of the simple.

A fashion photographer may denote a model wearing a coat and a hat but may connote flair, sophistication, and daring by the look and pose of the model and the setting.
