Purpose and Content
The purpose of your DWB is to discover, develop and explore ideas, experiment with materials, problem solve, reflect on work
and grow as an artist.
You DWB must include all written assignments, notes from class demonstrations or discussions. In addition it will include
research about an assigned topic, exercise or studies of art techniques (experiments), sketches of ideas, descriptions of
thinking and working processes, rough drafts of writing assignments, information gained from class critiques, definitions,
explanations, your own questions, thoughts, responses to artworks, artists, art issues or teacher questions, doodles and drawings
of images, ... etc.
The BEST workbooks will...
-be neat, organized and legible
-have each entry dated and entered in chronological order
-look visually interesting
-demonstrate a progression and evolution of thought and research
-be personalized (notes/ comments will be personally meaningful)
-reference all sources properly (including artworks-artist, title, date, medium, dimensions)
-make sure that all notes from class lessons, discussions, demonstrations are complete and accurate
-have a section for new vocabulary at the back of the book
-include ongoing reflection of studio work every class that is insightful and critical
-go beyond what is asked or expected
