Line

A line is the path of a moving point through space.  By definition a line is long and thin compared to a shape.
 
Lines:
  • assume a DIRECTION
horizontal
vertical
diagonal
circular
  • have a type

thick, thin, straight, wavy, jagged, broken, continuous, sloppy, freehand, mechanical... and so on.

  • have a character

weak, strong, noble, fragile, elegant, energetic... and so on.

Lines also:

define and enclose space

show outlines

create patterns

show value

show structure

create a sense of movement

describe feelings and have emotional qualities.
