Colour and Value

Colour is the character of a surface that reflects a certain wavelength of light identified as red, green, blue, etc...
 
A colour has 3 properties:
HUE- the basic colour
VALUE- the lightness (tint) or darkness (shade) of a colour
INTENSITY- the brightness (purity) or dullness (adding another colour)
Colour schemes are:
MONOCHROMATIC- the various values and intensities of one colour
ANALOGOUS- colours that are beside each other on the colour wheel
COMPLEMENTARY-colours that are across from each on the colour wheel
WARM OR COOL- have temperature
NEUTRAL- black, white, grey/ brown
Mixing colours:
PRIMARY-most basic colours (can't mix)
SECONDARY-mix 2 primary colours
TERTIARY-mix 1 primary and 1 secondary
NEUTRAL GREY
Colours can also be:
used to show spatial qualities, to identify objects, to attract attention
used to create mood and to show emotion
symbolic
