The Tradition of Blue and White Ware

Cobalt oxide has been unmatched in its popularity as a colorant because of its stability under a wide range of firing temperatures. Its use in pottery decoration, beginning with the Tang dynasty, spans many periods of ceramic history in several locations throughout the world. Potters competed to reach distinct pinnacles of achievement in the use of cobalt oxide. Its use continues to the present.

Trace the evolution of Blue and White in the following areas:

-The Far East-China, Japan, Korea
-The Near and Middle East- Persia, Turkey
-Europe- Spain, Portugal, Netherlands, Germany, England

Collect:
3-5 examples of blue and white pottery that trace its development.
