Chinese Discovery of Porcelain

THe invention of white translucent porcelain in seventeenth century China was the greatest single contribution made in the advancement of ceramic art. Vast trade routes linked China to Japan, Indo-China, the entire southeast Asian archipelago, Indi, the Islamic Near East, and Europe. Potters in those areas were inspired to create their own porcelain. The search to discover the secret lead to many unique innovations such as soft paste.
