Japanese Influences on China and the West

Zen Buddhism influenced Japanese taste in ceramic style resulting in preferences for certain designs and shapes. A successful domestic ceramic industry was established in Japan after captured Korean potters were brought to Japan following the Potter's War in the late sixteenth century. Exports of Japanese ware gave rise to Chinese and Western imitations.

-Raku
