If I were a teapot ...

Every teapot has its own character or personality. Some are fine and delicate while others may be strong and sturdy and still others are just plain and boring.

What if you were a teapot? Imagine what you would look like. How would your form, texture, colour, ... all reflect aspects of your identity? What aspects of yourself would you choose to reflect?

Assignment:
Create a teapot that reflects aspects of you and your identity.

Due Dates:
Bisque fire- February 10
Glaze/ paint-

Requirements:
1. You must follow the Creative Cycle:

Investigate ==> Plan ==> Create ==> Evaluate

2. You must consider each of the following areas as content:
- Your shape/ form including handle, spout, body, lid and base/feet
- Your interior/ exterior
- Your surface texture(s)
- Your surface colour
- Overall

3. Your plans must include:
- Thumbnail sketches exploring alternatives
- Details/ studies of the form, surface, etc.
- Multiple views including from above
- Notes that explain sketches and studies

Media:
- Your choice of clay(s).
- Must be bisque-fired.
- Surface can be either painted or glazed and glaze-fired.

Techniques:
You are to show technical skill in each of the following areas. Be sure to work off of the techniques practiced in class.
- Structure/ Body (ie. Pinch, coil, slab, model)
- Surface/ Texture (ie. Incise, pierce, impress, burnish, etc. )
- Surface/ Colour (ie. paint or glaze)

PLANNING

1. Use the questions below to guide your initial thinking and planning. Use your imagination and be creative!

2. Start sketching and be sure to:
a. create a series of thumbnail sketches that explore a variety of ideas (min. 5)
b. develop and refine your idea with detailed sketches including studies/details of the form and surface, multiple views and colour roughs
c. include notes that explain your sketches
